Constant message notifications can be distracting, especially in group conversations or with chatty friends. Fortunately, your iPhone allows you to mute notifications for specific conversations in the Messages app. In this article, we’ll walk you through the straightforward steps to achieve a quieter inbox.

Step 1: Open the Messages App Unlock your iPhone and find the Messages app icon, which looks like a green speech bubble. Tap on it to open the app.

Step 2: Locate the Conversation Within the Messages app, navigate to the conversation you want to mute. You can do this by scrolling through your list of conversations or using the search bar at the top.

Step 3: Swipe Left on the Conversation Once you’ve found the conversation you want to mute, swipe left on it. This action will reveal several options.

Step 4: Tap on “More” Among the options that appear when you swipe left, tap on “More.” This will take you to a menu with additional choices.

Step 5: Select “Hide Alerts” In the “More” menu, tap on “Hide Alerts.” This option will prevent notifications from appearing on your lock screen, in the Notification Center, and making any sound when new messages arrive in this conversation.

Step 6: Confirm the Action After selecting “Hide Alerts,” a small moon icon (🌙) will appear next to the conversation to indicate that it’s muted. To confirm and activate the mute feature, tap on “Done” in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Step 7: Unmute When Ready If you ever want to receive notifications for the conversation again, follow the same steps, but this time tap on “Show Alerts” instead of “Hide Alerts.”
